Full Disclosure

If you read my first post, you’ll possibly be thinking ‘Utd… Chelsea…clearly this family are weird’…

And that’s not even the full story!

5pm (ish) Saturday afternoon, the full time whistle blew at Goodison Park. Everton’s first home win of the season, and what a relief!

I’ve spent the last day of the previous two seasons being tortured, sat on the edge of my seat in the pub watching the final day play out and The Toffee’s take the mick out of my life, running it right down to the wire, fighting relegation to stay in the Prem.

Now before you make any assumptions, I’m not an Everton fan but my God did my mum and uncle try. Uncle Smit being the die hard fan he is, tattoo of the crest and everything!

My first match I ever went to at age 11 – Everton v Portsmouth – with Uncle Smit.

He even treated me to a new shirt with my name and number printed on the back! But I clearly wasn’t impressed with the 1-0 defeat they suffered that day and decided against being an Everton fan.

Nevertheless, the win this weekend gave me a tiny bit of hope that maybe, just maybe, I won’t be spending Sunday 19th May in absolute dread. We all know how emotional it can be following this game and thank god they’ve pulled it off previously, for my aunty’s sake…

So, business…

Saturday’s early kick-off finished with the result we were all expecting, which is a shame because we all love an underdog and I was screaming for Luton to pull something out the bag. Tottenham had so many chances but 40 minutes in and the ball was in the back of the net, Luton 1-0 up, you’re joking?! But yes, it was too good to be true and it wasn’t given due to a foul and Tom Lockyer took a boot to the head for no reward. Hats off to the ref, there were some great decisions on the day. It was clear to everyone that the red card just before half time was deserved and Bissouma was sent back to the dressing rooms for a dive just outside the penalty area. With only ten men on the pitch for Spurs, I was even more hopeful that Luton could get a result and just after kick off Adebayo had a great chance. 5 minutes later Van de Ven shattered those dreams with a stunning touch.

Luton Town 0 – 1 Tottenham Hotspur

I flicked over to Soccer Saturday to keep an eye on the 3 o’clock kick offs and I couldn’t believe what was happening, Burnley and Brentford both take the lead against Chelsea and Man Utd! I can’t say I’m surprised after the poor start to the season that both teams have had but it’s not how I thought it’d go. When the final whistle goes, order has been restored at Turf Moor and Old Trafford. 4 goals for Chelsea including an own goal and a penalty.

Burnley 1 – 4 Chelsea

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Fergie was back at the wheel with two goals from Scott McTominay in added time to secure a much needed 3 points for Ten Haag’s team.

Manchester United 2 – 1 Brentford

Super Sunday! Everyone’s favourite day of the week (surely).

With four fixtures scheduled, two of which were broadcast, it was going to be another chilled afternoon in front of the tele with a family size bag of crisps and a beer*.

*Beer was actually never cracked open this week and instead I have a 1.5l bottle of Evian

All three of the 2pm KO’s ended in draws – what are the chances?!

I’d love to have known the odd’s on that.

Highlights for me from these fixtures were Trippier’s assist for Newcastle’s second goal – unbelievable tekkers! And Gross conceding a penalty. For me, it was a red card, he should have been sent off. Yet another decision which went against Liverpool. They’re not having it easy this season.

West Ham 2 – 2 Newcastle United

Wolves 1 – 1 Aston Villa

4:30pm – The game that should have been dramatic and full of gritty play from two teams who, after only 2 months into the season, are already in a title race.

To me, it looked like both teams were a bit shaky, too much pressure and neither of them had the courage to go for it. It was very much like watching a game of chess and I actually fell asleep about 40 minutes in.

Luckily I was awake to see a little bit of magic from Arteta’s subs, some amazing game play from the four of them that lead to a late goal giving Arsenal the win, finally!

Arsenal 1 – 0 Manchester City

Gameweek 8 is over, not the best week in FPL for me but hey ho!

International break is upon us.

Until next time x
